Judith Rhodes
Judith L. Rhodes was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, during a time when young women were just beginning to have the opportunity to participate in school-related sports activities. Born eighth of thirteen children, she has always known the concept of ‘team’. Judy – as she is known to all with whom she is acquainted – graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School where she and her team of siblings excelled in sports. If someone called “next”, Judy was in! Participating in basketball, tennis, field hockey, track and field, softball, bowling, boxing and golf – sports provided Judy with the many values in order to be successful.
Each time she was introduced to a new sport, that old spark of enthusiasm ignited into a driving flame of persistence. Judy had the same passion that created the opportunity for her to become the first Black female Boxing and Wrestling Commissioner in the state of Nebraska. As a devoted sports aficionado, she also found herself in the position to pick up the game of golf, which she has grown to love. The more she played, the more she realized the important values she acquired through learning the game of golf. Throughout her journey Judy’s passion for teaching and coaching youth, has directed and aligned her to provide community outreach through sports. This has inspired Judy to reach out and share her joy and teach the youth in the community the necessary fundamentals and skills to learn the game of golf which could be used throughout life. Judy believes the program she has in place will strengthen our youth toward advancement in their future of becoming young adults. Judy has a passion for teaching the youth what it means to be honest and respectful in all areas of your daily life. So she has a vast interest not only in sports but a connection to young people, she provides a bridge to the development of character and determination. Judy is also an active member of her community; Judy serves on the usher board, at Salem Missionary Baptist Church, Omaha, Nebraska. Judy Rhodes was a coach and clubhouse volunteer for the Hogan’s Heroes Junior Golf program, she was a volunteer for the First Tee of Omaha organization as well, Judy is a staff member for the Nebraska State Athletic Commission, Judith L.
